Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra said he does not expect a small fee to significantly affect UPI transaction volumes.

Speaking on the matter, Malhotra said, “As of now, we do not see any drop in volumes. And I don’t personally think that a small fee will have a major impact on the volumes.”

His remarks come amid discussions around merchant discount rate (MDR) and digital payments, with the RBI chief indicating that UPI usage remains steady at present.
