Kochi: The Kochi Corporation has ruled out transferring land for the proposed Brahmapuram waste-to-energy plant, saying it is open only to leasing the site while retaining ownership. The position comes amid ongoing discussions over the project’s structure and implementation.
Councillors have opposed the idea of a regional plant and said that only waste generated within the district should be treated at Brahmapuram. They have also sought clarity on the lease period, viability gap funding and the Corporation’s liabilities linked to the project.
The council is expected to continue examining these issues before any final decision is taken on the waste-to-energy plan. For now, the Corporation has maintained that land ownership will remain with it.
